Subject: Preventing and Treating Biological Exposures: A Colloquium for Occupational Medicine, Infectious Disease and Emergency Medicine Professionals

You are cordially invited to attend "Preventing and Treating Biological Exposures: A Colloquium for Occupational Medicine, Infectious Disease and Emergency Medicine Professionals" at the Hotel Marlowe, Cambridge, Massachusetts, June 14-15, 2010.

The event is designed for occupational medicine, infectious disease, and emergency physicians; physician assistants and nurse practitioners; occupational health nurses and biosafety professionals.

The interactive, case-study-rich colloquium will include information on:

·         Developing a proactive plan for appropriate medical responses to laboratory biosafety issues

·         Providing appropriate post-exposure prophylaxis (including experimental treatments) for exposures to biological agents

·         Resources to aid diagnoses and treatment plans

Topics include:

·         Occupational health surveillance and monitoring in biological laboratories and animal facilities

·         Successful risk-based incident reporting, response, and illness surveillance programs

·         Developing proactive programs, policies and procedures

·         Case studies  (influenza, Herpes B, Brucella, vaccinia, tumor cell lines, zoonotic infections, lentiviral exposures, and more)

The event's sponsors are: American College of Occupational and Environmental medicine; American Biological Safety Association; the Centers for Disease Control; the Eagleson Institute, a non-profit foundation with a mission to promote the principles and practices of laboratory safety; and the Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation, which promotes safe research practices.
